How signatures work:
- On a page, any change you make appears in the history with your name, so a signature is not required.
- On a talk page, any change you make still appears in the history, but it's a hassle to go back and see who wrote what. Therefore, signatures make it easier to read the discussion. It's kind of a halfass attempt to make something un-forum-like act like a forum.
