Biography

After the breakup of Virus, Chad made friends with Kol Mackay at school. They talked about music and Chad asked Kol to start a band. Kol agreed but did not play an instrument so Chad offered to teach Kol the miniscule amount of knowledge he had learned about the drums if Kol would drum for the new band.

The two began writing songs together and soon asked Kol's friend Alex Escot to play bass. Alex agreed and they began jamming regularly. As they began writing material, friends Mobius had also started developing material and the two bands began a friendly rivalry, often jamming together in all-night sessions in Kol's basement. Up until late '92 Chad and Alex had been singing but neither of them were very good at it, so it was decided to bring on Kol's friend Casey Walker to sing. This would be the final lineup.

Kol came up with the name and they began playing shows with a mix of covers and originals. The band played their very first show at Crocks N Rolls opening up for the awful band Rymes with Orange. Ritual continued writing and playing shows through the first half of 1993. It was at this point that Chad had become unsatisfied. He did not like the creative direction the band was taking and found himself unable to write any new material for the band. While discussing his frustration with Erik Knudsen, Erik suggested that Chad jump ship and play second guitar for Mobius. Chad decided to do it, which put a little distance between him and Kol, although they would eventually get over that shit and still occasionally play music together to this day.

The rest of the band continued on for a short while, but eventually went their separate ways.

Sniff.
