Biography
Devious played a number of shows and highschool talent performances in early-to-mid 2000 as a three-piece instrumental hard rock band before recruiting John Benson on vocals. They only ever played one show with the final line-up, and their performance had mixed reactions. The show was at 201 Syndicate on December 9th, 2001. Devious was one of many bands scheduled to play that night in support of The Cal Hopkins Amish Armada. Devious' performance consisted of a number of instrumental pieces while singer John Benson stood onstage eating Muselix and drinking coffee. Near the end of their set, they performed their only two songs with vocals at the time - Bstach-Tach & The Breaking of the Broken - neither of which went over very well, due mainly to John Benson forgetting the lyrics, and general bad timing by the whole band.
Devious recorded a 3-track demo with producer Dave Ciccarelli of The Flying Disc over the weekend of February 17th and 18th of 2001. This demo contained the song Past and Perception, which the band had never really played before the recording, yet it ended up being the standout track on the demo. A number of CD-R copies of the demo were later released by the band to friends, but Devious never did end up making a commercial release of any kind. The original demo remains in the possession of the vocalist.
