An original mix of classic R&B and Blues influences permitted the group to carve out a very distinct place in the Thunder Bay music scene. Shunning the traditional 60's pop scene in favour of a less commercial repertoire, their unique sound combined very powerful vocals and original arrangements of 50's and 60's black music classics based on a broader definition and enhanced role for the rhythm section.
Their demo record of Hey Joe/Knock on Wood won the Battle of the Bands radio competition on CJLX radio in the summer of 1967, beating out groups such as The Stones in the voting.
From 1966 to 1968 they played regularly at the Fort William Gardens and local high school and social events around the city.
