Biography

Bubblegum Crisis were a not very good band that existed for a short time in the mid 1990's. The band played about 8 - 10 shows in Thunder Bay. The band was started when A Guy and Matt Henry approached Chad Decent about jamming. After the demise of Mobius, Chad parted ways with the brothers Rhyno and began jamming with A Guy and Matt in Matt's basement. They loosely attempted some covers and threw around some original ideas.

Bubblegum Crisis opened for Tristan Psionic, Smoother, and Hayden at Crocks N Rolls on May 4th, 1995. Admission was $4.

Chad had earlier been approached by Gary Dougherty of Headcramp at Crocks N Rolls about starting up a project. When the boys decided to get a little more serious, They called Gary up to play some of the ideas they'd been "working" on. Gary was an accomplished drummer and fit in well, sharing a similar sense of humour and a love of Shamrock Shakes.

A Guy and Chad shared guitar duties while Matt filled the bottom end with bass. Gary was a few years older and had a lot of playing, writing and touring experience. Although easy going, Gary inspired the boys to step up their playing and get serious with writing. A Guy, Chad and Matt were still teenagers and inexperienced writers. The material was crude, and unfocused. Most of it was fairly loud, fast, melodic and up-beat. A Guy handled the vocals as no one else could sing worth a lick of shit. The boys spent the winter getting material together and eventually played shows at Crocks 'N' Rolls and The L.U. Pub.

After about a year, the band began to grow apart. Each member was developing a musical personality and aesthetic that seemed to clash. Jamming became sporadic and less productive and eventually Daugherty left to fill a vacant drum spot in the band Trigger Happy. The other three kept jamming informally but soon, Matt Henry decided to form a new summer project called Speedway Squad with A Guy, and returning scene alumni Erik Knudsen, while Chad took a break from writing and performing to learn drums and screw around.

This band did not record any of their material and thank fuck for that.
