The Sleeping Giant
The Sleeping Giant Motor Hotel, AKA The Sleezy G, was a club that was home to many local and out of town rock bands. It flourished in the 80's, and was remodelled inside and became Coyotes in the 90's.
Ahhhh, 80's large hair metal in its prime, The Sleezy G was. It had a dark atmosphere inside, the bands were loud, lotsa fights, fun place ;-)
The Silverado Saloon and Restaurant
This building was host to the original Silverado.
On the morning of November 15th, 1994, the bar caught fire. The double wall between the bar and adjacent University Park Inn saved them, but the roof and north wall of the bar collapsed. The owner was fully insured for all $1.5 million in damage.
A new Silverado was later built in the former Bonanza Restaurant near Intercity.
Coyotes
Coyotes was western-themed. Eventually, it burnt down due to arson. After some time being vacant, it was resurrected as Wazooz.
Wazooz
This name was chosen in a contest. It wasn't long before it was discovered that 'wazoo' is a euphemism for 'anus', and the bar was once again renamed.
It was not a venue during this phase.
The Zoo
This name was stable for a time, until the bar was renamed and rethemed as Warp 9.
It was not a venue during this phase.
Warp 9
Warp 9 burnt down (arson) in 2005, and was moved to The Orpheum building on Court St. before closing down again.
