Biography

Committed to the notion that music enriches all curricula, Jamie's devotion to music and education has been life long. An active musician and songwriter, this retired elementary school administrator is now focusing his efforts on musical supports for language arts, mathematics and social studies units in the primary and junior grades. His passions for history and story telling are apparent in many of his compositions.

Keeping current with trends in music education and in language arts, Jamie is currently teaching Primary and Junior music and language arts at Lakehead University's Faculty of Education.

Do you want a minstrel to support your Medieval Studies Unit? Do you want to sing about dinosaurs (Jamie's actually dug one up), pioneers, rocks and minerals, explorers, safety, the human body or structures in science? Do you want to put a piece of mathematical literature to music or build sound effects for a favourite big book? Do you want support for your guided reading program with repetitive song and verse or environmental language? Do you want to enrich your students' experience with poetry? Can guided writing be cultivated through guided song writing? Do you wish to explore the harmony between language and music? Jamie has done work in all of these areas through LTTA. Jamie is a firm believer in active learning and with tongue in cheek has been known to remark, 'If it ain't noisy and it ain't messy, it probably ain't learnin'!'
